When I reviewed my intake results with Dr. Tom*, he mentioned being curious to the infection I had when I was pregnant with my first child. He wanted to know if I’d be interested in doing a blood, hair, and urine analysis with an Osteopathic physician to see if we could learn anything about my issues.

Gut Cleansing

This is something I’d been discussing with a friend, so I jumped at the mention of this testing. I know so much can be learned from having my blood, urine, and hair analyzed, and I wanted answers. Yes, chiropractic care was helping, but helping what? What caused all of this?

Since that time, Dr. Tom has been searching for a reliable place to get this work done. Currently, he is still working on finding those answers. Because he does find the gut important and views it as the body’s second brain, he talks to me about my stomach issues. He works with me to figure out what is happening, and I keep him in the loop of what I am currently researching in regards to my gut.

Wednesday I told him about a friend, the certified holistic nutritionist, asking if I have used a ZYTO scan to see if I had parasites in my gut. The prior evening I dove into research about parasites in the gut. He was familiar, so we launched into a discussion all about cleansing the gut of potential parasites. Have I mentioned how awesome it is to have a healthcare provider believe his patients?

Dr. Tom was thrilled that I had discovered this. He completely supported me doing this cleansing, and only cautioned drinking straight vinegar. Vinegar is highly acidic and could cause pain, irritation, or damage to the esophagus. His suggestion was to dilute one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in 4 ounces of water. In fact, he drinks a glass of water a day that contains one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. However, too much apple cider vinegar can be harmful.

An Elimination Diet

We are both waiting to see how this goes. In conjunction with the cleansing, I’m doing an elimination diet.  If I have to avoid all those foods listed for this cleansing, then I might as well do an elimination diet while I’m at it. The only issue I’m going to have (and already having) is no coffee. I get headaches later in the day if I don’t have coffee, so I’m still working on that aspect of this cleanse.

I’m also tracking my foods as suggested by friends. If I get a stomach upset or discomfort, I make a note of it in my food diary as soon as it happens. I’m hoping this narrows down what is causing issues (if I find any), and I can be on my way to a healthier gut.

Friday’s chiropractic appointment was canceled due to a family emergency with Dr. Tom. We will resume sessions on Monday.

At the conclusion of this week, I haven’t had any nerve pain aside from tingling toes and fingers. My stomach issues still rage on, but I’m working on that with the cleanse. My overall body pain has increased this week, but that is due to the rain storms slamming the East coast.
